At this point having too much regulation is not the problem. That said, the CFPA needs to be answerable to the people and NOT BANKS OR POLITICIANS.

IMPORTANT! We need to ensure that the members of the consumer protection agency are elected NOT assigned by the party in power. It needs to be INDEPENDENT.

The Honorable Senator Dodd/The Honorable Senator Shelby
Dear Senator Dodd/Dear Senator Shelby,
I am writing to encourage you and the members of the Senate Banking Committee to pass an effective financial reform bill and establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency. The CFPA must be an independent agency that will stand up for every America consumer and crack down on abusive practices by credit card companies and mortgage lenders. We need a strong agency, not a watered-down version, nor one that will wield no real power because it is buried in another department or agency. A strong CFPA will also limit the kinds of risk that led to the current crisis, hold Wall Street accountable, and, as a result, prevent future financial meltdowns.
Senators Dodd and Shelby, you have been charged with representing the interests of the American public. Please be visionary leaders and champions. Be OUR voices in Congress, not those of the big banks, CEOs and Wall Street institutions responsible for the financial collapse that has cost millions of jobs and devastated so many lives and communities. We need a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, and we need meaningful financial reform.

Respectfully, Rashelle Walker- consumer, and proud American

Sounds like a great idea but CFPA is going to cost tax payers more money to organize. More government workers to be payed and still more government workers who'll be payed to oversee the progress.

Hasn't our government already spent too much money on programs that are meant to help the ordinary guy/gal but end up either ineffective and or a target for corruption and extortion?

I want these bastards to be held accountable just as much as the next guy, but who's going to hold Washington accountable? In my opinion, we need to start with the old bastards on the hill. Their corruption is older, and more far reaching than I think we could imagine. Can we really trust them with our "protection" anymore?

Personally, I cannot.
