    Dear Senator Dodd/Dear Senator Shelby,

I am writing to encourage you and the members of the Senate Banking Committee to pass an effective financial reform bill and establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency. The CFPA must be an independent agency that will stand up for every America consumer and crack down on abusive practices by credit card companies and mortgage lenders. We need a strong agency, not a watered-down version, nor one that will wield no real power because it is buried in another department or agency. A strong CFPA will also limit the kinds of risk that led to the current crisis, hold Wall Street accountable, and, as a result, prevent future financial meltdowns.

Senators Dodd and Shelby, you have been charged with representing the interests of the American public. Please be visionary leaders and champions. Be OUR voices in Congress, not those of the big banks, CEOs and Wall Street institutions responsible for the financial collapse that has cost millions of jobs and devastated so many lives and communities. We need a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, and we need meaningful financial reform.

    Respectfully,

    John D Gilbert Jr.

The Honorable Senator Dodd/The Honorable Senator Shelby

    Dear Senator Dodd/Dear Senator Shelby,

I am writing to encourage you and the members of the Senate Banking Committee to pass an effective financial reform bill and establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Main Street America has far too long carried on our backs, the US economic woes (whether we wanted to or not). Through our tax dollars, we've bailed out a number of self-serving financial institutions to the tune of $11 trillion committed and $3 trillion already invested. The government has also created a public debt of more than $12 trillion and counting that future generations will be paying for years. The soaring federal debt and deficits have put our financial security and the country’s future in peril. Although we’ve played a role in this economic crisis, at the same time we’re also the ones who have lost millions of jobs, suffered foreclosures, emptied food banks and sadly, sometimes lost our families.

To this end, it’s imperative that you and the members of the Senate Banking Committee pass an effective financial reform bill which cuts spending and raises revenue; and establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency. The CFPA must be an independent agency that will stand up for every America consumer and crack down on abusive practices by credit card companies and mortgage lenders. We need a strong agency, not a watered-down version, nor one that will wield no real power because it is buried in another department or agency. ear Senator Dodd/Shelby,

As a proud and true American I think that it is unfair, and very distasteful, for myself and other American consumers to have to pay higher rates, for the sole purpose to make it fair and the same for all. How is it fair for a person like myself to pay higher rates becuase of others misfortunes and ignorance. I take pride and in the fact that I have the ability to borrow money at very low rates, due to the fact that I care, and do always pay the money back on time. Which shows on my credit. It would be a great insult to have to pay higher rates so everyone getting approved to borrow money get the same. Peoples ability to pay back debt differs, therefore, there are diffrent risks to lenders for lending to those same people. The same as I'm judged on my ability to pay back money, so are others, how is it fair that the people who are late paying debt, or just don't pay it back at all should get the same as myself and others like me. Just doesn't make sense, just like most things going on in Washington as of late. LISTEN TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE OR ENJOY YOUR TIME IN THE UNEMPLOYMENT OFFICE WITH THE OTHER 9.8% (and holding) OF THE COUNTRY!

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy G. Blow
Consumer, General Sales Manger, and as of right now PROUD AMERICAN
